WTF? Spotted in Asia

New Zealand Cheddar and White Chocolate Doughnut
sounds odd but a good tasting combo on a light, fluffy doughnut

Happy toast and doughnut keyrings

Firecracker lobster crisps: A curious flavour but great with a beer

Another food journey has just ended, we called this one the Hawker Nose Bag Holiday. My cholesterol must be through the roof and I've got fat in spite of wandering until foot sore in hot and extremely humid conditions.

We sampled so many hawker morsels that by the end of the trip I felt nauseous from all the lard, ghee, coconut cream, condensed milk, sugar and refined flours, we consumed. But it was a trip of a lifetime as the business of hawker food in South East Asia lessens in popularity and younger generations go to university in order to move beyond family food stalls into professional lives. Stay tuned for some delicious tales from the Hawker Nose Bag Holiday.

Fab photos - you can get the keychains in Russell Street though next to Nam Loong :-)

Those are wonderful and weird snaps! Travels abroad are the best for spying new and odd food products!

The cheese donut sounds interesting and I like the smiley toast although it would be hard to bring oneself to devour something that's looking at you nicely....might need to close my eyes!

That donut looks wrong I'm afraid, like they're having a laugh when every westerner buys one!
I would like them to invent happy bread that dissolves into a crying face when you slice it!
I am envious of your holiday!

This is my kind of post. I love weird and wacky things. They frequently end in disappointment (especially things that supposedly taste like lobster) but I can't helping trying them.

That donut is seriously scary!

We are off to Malaysia soon for a quick (9 day) trip for the first time. Got any highlights?

Thanks to everyone for their comments.

AOF In Penang, Newlands is the recommended place for hawker food. it's in Georgetown and a cab driver will know where to take you.

In KL we tend to go to hawkers in a carpark on Jalan Imbi & Jalan Alor(Straits Chinese food). The Pavilion Mall has an eyepopping array of hawker food & restaurants in its basement food court.

For Malaysian food blogs I would suggest consulting:

... and Brickfields, little India where there is tons of vegetarian fare & also lovely chappatis at Sentral Chappati's in the side street below the monorail
